A Guide to Moving to Ocoee, FL (Straight from a Local Who Lives (and Moves!) Here)

Hey there! I’m Brian Green, owner of Just Move It.

If you’re thinking about moving to Ocoee, let me just say—you’re gonna love it here.

I’m not just saying that because I live here (okay, maybe I am a little), but seriously, Ocoee has that “just right” mix of small-town charm and big-city convenience.

It’s got:

  • Friendly neighbors
  • Great schools
  • The kind of Florida weather that makes you want to grill outside year-round (with the occasional dash to cover things when a storm rolls in).

And guess what? We’re based right here in Ocoee.

At Just Move It, we help people move all across Central Florida—but Ocoee is home. So if you’re relocating to Ocoee, consider this your local’s guide to making it an easy, stress-free move.

What Makes Ocoee So Great?

Ocoee sits on the west side of Orlando, which means you’re close to everything—theme parks, jobs, shopping, you name it—but you’re not stuck in the middle of the tourist traffic. It’s peaceful out here.

The city’s got a family-friendly vibe, lots of community events, and a whole bunch of green space. We’ve got lakes, trails, and parks like Bill Breeze that are perfect for a weekend picnic or some fishing with the kids.

And if you’ve got little ones, the schools here are solid. A lot of families move here for that reason alone.

Why People Are Moving to Ocoee (and Why I Did Too)

I’ve lived in Ocoee for years, and the reasons I love it are the same ones that keep bringing new folks in:

1. You Can Actually Afford to Live Here

Let’s be real—housing in Orlando isn’t cheap anymore. But Ocoee still has affordable homes, whether you’re looking for something move-in ready or a new build in one of the growing neighborhoods.

2. It’s Close to Everything Without Feeling Crowded

You can hop on SR-429, the Turnpike, or 408 and be just about anywhere in 15–30 minutes. Downtown Orlando, Disney, Winter Garden—it’s all right there, but you still get to come home to a quiet street.

3. You Actually Get a Neighborhood Feel

People say hi to each other. We have food truck nights, craft fairs, fireworks at the lake… it’s the kind of place where you get to know your neighbors. That’s rare these days.

Best Neighborhoods in Ocoee (From Someone Who’s Moved Folks Into All of Them)

Every neighborhood has its own flavor, so here are a few spots to check out:

  • Downtown Ocoee – Super walkable, with historic homes and lots of charm. Great if you’re into character and being close to events.
  • Prairie Lake Reserve – Gated community with newer townhomes. Quiet, well-maintained, and great for first-time buyers or small families.
  • Arden Park North – One of the newer neighborhoods with a more upscale feel. Tons of amenities, walking paths, and even some lake views.
  • Westyn Bay – If you’ve got kiddos and want a community with parks, a pool, and top-notch security, this one’s worth a look.

We’ve moved folks into pretty much every part of Ocoee, so if you’ve got questions, just ask us—we’ve probably carried a couch down that street.

Local Moving Tips You’ll Thank Me For Later

Florida moves come with their own quirks. Here’s what you’ll want to know:

  • Mornings are your friend – Afternoon thunderstorms are a thing here. Plan to move early before the rain rolls in.
  • Traffic isn’t bad… if you time it right – Avoid Colonial Drive around rush hour (especially near Clarke Rd). SR-429 is a lifesaver if you time it well.
  • Watch out for tight driveways and low-hanging trees – Some of the older neighborhoods in Ocoee weren’t built with moving trucks in mind. We’ve got smaller trucks for these areas, no problem—but it helps to know ahead of time.
  • HOA rules – Some communities (like Forest Brooke or Westyn Bay) have moving guidelines—stuff like what hours trucks can be parked, or which entrance to use. Just check before the big day.
